What You Should Know Before Considering Laser Vision Correction-- Enhancements

Enhancements

LASIK is a remarkably predictable technique of vision correction most of the time. But with individual patients, there is variability in how their cornea will respond to the laser. For those who have under or overcorrections, which they find bothersome, enhancements offer the opportunity to achieve the desired final result. Five to fifteen percent of patients depending on the type and degree of preoperative refractive error, desire enhancements. Many patients worry, unnecessarily, about the possible need for an enhancement. The following is a brief explanation of what to expect in the event that you need an enhancement.

If you do require an enhancement following your initial LASIK surgery, it is usually performed three to six months following the initial procedure. This is to ensure that your prescription has stabilized before performing the enhancement.

If your enhancement is done between three and twelve months after the initial LASIK procedure, I will most likely raise the same flap that was created in your initial procedure. However, after 6 months I occasionally elect to create another flap, which is to say, repeat the steps of the initial procedure.
