Practicing in the heart of New York
City for more than 20 years, Barry Chaiken, M.D. is one of the
most respected ophthalmologists and surgeons in the country and
has developed one of the largest private practices in the metropolitan
area. His reputation as both physician and surgeon has resulted
in the growth of an international patient population, providing
general ophthalmology services and performing refractive and anterior
segment surgery.
Education
Barry Chaiken, M.D. Is a graduate
of Yale University and received his medical degree from Columbia
University, College of Physicians & Surgeons. He served as
a medical intern at the Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. He
completed his residency and served as chief resident in ophthalmology
at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City.
Associations
Dr. Chaiken is a diplomat of the
American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American
Academy of Ophthalmology. He holds an academic appointment at
Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is
currently on the attending staff of the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and
Throat Hospital, as well as the St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital
and New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Community
As a pioneer in the movement against
managed care, Dr. Chaiken is one of the cofounders and former President
of Independent Doctors of New York, an organization dedicated
to promoting the highest traditional values of medicine, uncompromised
by outside bureaucratic or financial influence. He has been featured
in The New York Times, has appeared in New York Magazine "Best
Doctor" list and Castle and Connolly's Best Doctors.
